COCKERMOUTH’S new professional, Chamila Gamage (pictured), has settled in well to North Lancashire & Cumbria League cricket, nine games into the season.

The Sri Lanka Test player - he’s turned out twice against Bangladesh - has already taken nearly 20 wickets for Cockermouth with his fast medium pace action.

As well as the Test matches, in which he took five wickets, Gamage has also played seven one day internationals for his country.

Gareth White, Cockermouth’s first team captain, said: “Chamila has been fantastic. He’s very professional, always gives 100 per cent.”

Gamage has signed for the 2008 season but there is every possibility he could stay longer with Cockermouth if he and club want to extend the contract.

He is a level two coach and is already playing a big part, says White, in bringing on the club’s junior sides.
