But the 2005 winners, Workington, are out, beaten by Whitehaven who Keswick next take on.

In Sunday’s quarter-finals Keswick were at Cleator where there was a desperately close finish, just three runs settleing the issue.

Imran Khan top-scored for Keswick with 58 in their total of 178-9 and the Cleator innings was pretty similar as it revolved around Dominic Chambers (78) but finished on 175-8.

Whitehaven were given a solid start against Workington with an opening stand of 73 between Eddie Birkett (38) and Johnny Bruce (34).

Professional Saliva Saman hit the day’s top knock of 84 and with Andrew Kelly chipping in with 37, Whitehaven reached 239-7. Simon James was the most successful Workington bowler with 3-49.

Workington, by comparison had a disastrous start as both openers were out for ducks and at 6-2 they looked in trouble.

They were revived by professional Simon Beare (60) and he had seen the score to a better-looking 113-3 when he was dismissed.

Kristian Moffat (76) stayed to try and guide Workington home but they were unable to finish with a flourish and were bowled out for 209.

Tom Crowe took 3-35 for Whitehaven and the pro Saman had 3-46.

Another outstanding all-round effort by Carlisle professional Usman Saeed helped them defeat Haverigg.

It was still close, though, Carlisle, going through by only 10 runs.

Saeed scored 80 in a Carlisle total of 192-6 and then took 4-26 as the visitors were bowled out for 182.

Marc Brown (47) and the professional gave Carlisle a solid start which they built on, but Haverigg pro Sridharan Sriram did put something of a brake on as he took 3-18.

Nobody, not even in form pro Sriram could get really in for Haverigg and they were bowled out for 182. Glen Clark provided good back-up to Saeed with 3-40.

In the other quarter-final Millom posted 168-9 for the home side Dalton to chase. Ryan Brown hit 71 for Millom.

Dalton never looked like getting to their target as they were bowled-out for just 73.

Adam Kelly took 6-20 and stand-in professional Elsroy Powell shared the bowling honours by taking 4-13.

The semi-finals are scheduled for Sunday and are Carlisle v Millom and Whitehaven v Keswick.
