Spain - just brilliant

Viva Espana.

Well Euro 2008 is officially my favourite championships since I can remember. Apart from France v Romania and Italy v Spain, the rest of the tournament was fantastic.

The only thing that annoys the life out of me is that I never put my money where my mouth was. Spain to win and Villa to be top scorer. Absolutely spot on and I told everyone I knew that this would come off but I never went to the bookies. Oh well.

The Spanish deserved to win. Their passing, flair and at times sheer brilliance had me hooked all tournament. Villa’s goals, Torres’ runs, Iniesta in the middle, Senna breaking it up and Casilas in goal. What a team and one I am definitely sticking a few quid on them winning the World Cup.

It was also a tournament when Ronaldo, the best player on Earth, didn’t show up. I’m not pleased because he is a quality player but I’m still not quite over the wink at the World Cup in 2006.

Anyway, the will he, won’t he leave saga is beginning to annoy me. If he doesn’t want to play then let him go. Sell him for as much as Real are willing to pay and then buy in the second and third best players in the world. Ronaldo is replaceable.

Speaking of transfers, Kevin Gray at Workington Reds is FANTASTIC news. This is the man who a lot of Carlisle Utd fans see as the reason behind their recent success.

He is a powerful figure and a mean tackler but Kev is more than that. He is a leader. No disrespect to Kyle May, Tony Hopper or any other key figures on the Borough Park field but Kev is the reason why I believe Reds will make the play-offs this season.

Edmo has pulled off a coup here. Mansfield, the team he began his career with, were interested in the 36-year-old bruiser but he lives in Cumbria now and wanted to stay in the area.

Good luck Kev and more to come please Darren.
