Reds will be pushing for promotion

REDS boss Darren Edmondson reckons that there will be a lot of interest in his three strikers in the summer, and he is probably right.
Between them they have scored 35 goals, with Jonny Wright leading the way with 14.
In December, after the Bury game in the FA Cup, Chris Casper, the Shakers boss, admitted he was interested in signing Reds’ St Kitts international, Matthew Berkeley, however the January transfer window came and went with all three hitmen still at the club.
Edmondson is staying calm over the possibility of losing one or more of his strikers and agrees the summer months will be a big test for his side.
He said: “There’s no point worrying what’s around the corner as you can’t stop it.”
And he is right. Even if the club do accept offers for their players, there is still no guarantee that they will move. Reed and Wright have made their way through the Carlisle Utd set-up and so may not be willing to move, if the club after their services is in the same league.
Reds’ league position this season I am 100 per cent sure is false. I was at the game on Tuesday night, sat next to local hero John Walsh, and we both agreed that the football played by Reds at times is superb.
Edmondson paid tribute to his strikers this week, saying: “People are always willing to take a chance on a striker.
“Michael Reed isn’t fully there yet but he’s a good footballer and natural goal-scorer, who is always moving, thinking how he can get a yard to get his shot off.
“He’s an intelligent footballer, and when he plays alongside Jonny, they complement each other well.
“Jonny’s improving all the time. A couple of managers have already told me they like the look of him.
“Matthew’s possibly the most gifted of the three but is young and lacks confidence in his own ability.
“We just tell him to keep doing what he does in training and take that in to games. He has bundles of pace and is always a threat.”
Not only do Reds have three fantastic strikers but in reserve they have a real talent in Tony Nicholson. The lad scored six goals in a reserve game the other week and in time will be a star for this Workington team.
He is lucky that he’s supported by the likes of Graham Anthony, who in my opinion is one of the best players at Borough Park.
With such a young squad, I think Darren and Viv Busby will have a great summer strengthening their squad and next year, Reds will be up there pushing for promotion!
