A FURTHER £2 million pounds may be given to put a stop to the Siddick Pong.
The stench, from United Utilities’ Siddick waste water treatment plant, can be smelled at ti mes in Maryport, Seaton, Northside, Flimby and Camerton.
A ring-fenced grant worth £2 million and provided by United Utilities may become available if enough people write in or phone to complain.
The money would be used to cover some of the primary tanks, which councillors hope will make a big difference to the stench.
This new move comes after an unsuccessful £4.5m programme to kill the pong around the plant was completed in December last year as part of a £7.5 million investment.
Seaton councillor Joe Sandwith said: “If we can get enough people to write in and tell United Utilities exactly what we have to put up with then this is a good chance to make that funding available.”
“People in this day and age people shouldn’t have to put up with a situation where they can’t open their windows or leave their washing out to dry.”
Mr Dunbar, of Seaton, said: “The only way I can get investment is through complaints, and if I don’t get complaints than I can’t get any money.”
Complaints should be addressed to Mr Dunbar, WWT, Lillyhall, CA14 4EW or by calling 0845 3094098.
