New Sellafield pay deal avoids crippling strike

SELLAFIELD has avoided a potentially crippling strike on the eve of its handover to the private sector after workers voted to accept a pay offer.
Members of the nuclear site’s GMB and Unite unions, who threatened a wave of strikes after rejecting a pay offer, voted three to one in favour of the deal.
The decision ends months of dispute between management and staff which had resulted in workers launching industrial action short of a strike.
Members of the Prospect union had already accepted a two per cent rise in basic pay.
Sellafield’s new operators Nuclear Management Partners will take control of the site next week.
