TOURISM businesses in Cumbria are being advised to offer visitors the best possible value for money during 2009 to help counter the effects of any recession.

ADVICE: Tom Wright

Britain's highest ranking tourism official, Tom Wright, chief executive of VisitBritain, gave a range of advice to tourism businesses at an event organised by Cumbria Tourism.

Mr Wright told his audience in Kendal that people would be far more selective about where they visited, spend longer on research to get the most out of their break, and would be looking for good value.

He said tourism businesses must ensure that prices were reasonable.

He added: “Businesses should not be tempted to squeeze out the last pound, as people appreciate added value and will go for value for money rather than the lowest cost option as they are less willing to compromise on quality."
