WORKINGTON Scouts were given an Olympic lesson in archery.
Arlecdon’s Alan Wills, who represented Great Britain at this summer’s Olympic Games in Beijing, taught the 1st Workington St John’s Scouts the skills of archery on Saturday.
Phill Dryden, cub scout leader, said the youngsters had a great time learning from someone at the top of the sport.
He said: “The kids were working for their fitness and sport enthusiast badges. Part of the criteria was to be introduced to, and try, two new sports.
“The first was boxing at Moorclose Sports Centre where the kids were given coaching by Martin Sewell and Joe Dryden, the result being that four of our cubs have taken up boxing training at the sports centre.”
The sports star also held a question-and-answer session with the scouts.
The group has 70 members and there is a waiting list to join. They are hoping to start an explorers section, but more scout leaders and helpers are needed. Anyone who is interested can contact Phill on 01900 870118.
