Fun fair marks nursery’s 45 years

PAST pupils now nearing their 50s were among dozens of people who turned up at the Mary Platt Pre-School’s fun fair in Cockermouth.

The event was held to mark the 45th anniversary of the nursery, which was named after the wife of a well-known West Cumbrian paediatrician.

The nursery holds its sessions in the Lorton Street Methodist Church and caters for more than 40 children aged between two and four.

Said leader Heather Bell: “We had a very good turn out, which included people who used to be pupils here and people who used to teach here.

“We even had a picture taken of a little boy on a slide where his mum had her picture taken back in 1963.”

A board featuring old photographs proved a great attraction, and Mrs Bell hopes that anyone with more photos and memorabilia can contact her as she is hoping to put together a book of the nursery’s history.
