Carlisle United school’s awards for soccer skills and fund raising

PUPILS at a Workington school were presented with awards on Tuesday after they raised £1,892.

St Gregory’s Primary School, Furness Road, Moorclose, had been working with the community team from Carlisle United, who taught the pupils football skills.

The children were sponsored by friends and family.

The money will be split between the school and the community team.

John Halpin, Carlisle United’s football in the community officer, said: “We are working hard with schools in the area. Iit means we get to see local talent and the children learn new skills and raise some money for the school.”

Certificates, medals, caps, signed football shirts were given to the pupils and a signed Carlisle United shirt - was given to the pupil who raised the most money; Kieran Martin, nine, won the shirt by raising £70 in sponsorship.

Headteacher Celia Holder said: “It is fantastic that Carlisle United get involved in these projects. The children get excited about learning the skills and you can see how much they enjoyed it by how much money they raised.”

Carlisle United will spend the money on new equipment so it can continue visiting schools.
