PUPILS at St Michael’s Nursery and Infant School in Workington have been learning about Hinduism as part of a multi-cultural week.
The children took part in a number of activities, such as making greeting cards and creating masks of a monkey god.
They also dressed up in Hindu clothing and ate Hindu food at lunch-time.
Senior teaching assistant Debbie Richardson said: “We are hoping they will learn a lot about what people are doing in different cultures. It will help them to be more tolerant.”
In addition, the pupils took part in a yoga exercise in the school hall and created a Diwali celebration scene and altar.
Diwali is a five-day celebration, sometimes known as the Festival of Lights, when gifts are given and festive food is eaten. This year’s celebration began on Tuesday.
