How I beat Phil The Power Taylor at darts

A WORKINGTON darts player beat European champion Phil ‘The Power’ Taylor in a friendly match at Workington Working Men’s Club on Wednesday.

David ‘Rocker’ Rothery, 56, of Walls Road, Salterbeck, beat the 13 times world champion with a double 15.

Mr Rothery said: “It was an honour to play one the best in the country. He really is a talented guy. It’s been a brilliant experience.”

Mr Rothery was joined by nine other Workington locals, Richard Carter, Tony Elliot, Kevin Lawson, Rob McCubrie, Murie Reed, Steve Cairns, Brett Lowden, Stephen Dawes and James Robinson, who each played a game against Mr Taylor.

More than 200 people attended the evening which saw Mr Taylor signing autographs and holding a question and answer session

Mr Taylor, 48, of Newcastle-Under-Lyme, said: “I was here last year and I have good memories of this place. “It’s lovely coming back and being welcomed by the locals.”
