Polish demand puts beef tripe and goulash on Co-op’s menu

POLISH sauces, vegetables, jams and pickles will soon be available at Maryport’s Co-op supermarket.
A small range of Polish products were introduced in 2006 but will now be extended thanks to an increasing demand.
Stuffed cabbage, goulash, beef tripe and pickled cucumber are just some of the items that will now be available in Maryport.
The town has been selected because of the large number of Poles and Eastern Europeans living there. Cockermouth’s Co-op will not carry the Polish range.
A Co-op buyer, Salma Khan, said the range would appeal to Polish customers but it was hoped that British people might also try something different.
Maryport is already stocking many of the items and manager Martin Story said they are being well received.
“The fruit juices - especially one with banana and a multi-vitamin one are being picked up by locals as well as the Eastern Europeans but I am not sure if Maryport folk are trying the other items yet,” he said.
