LAKES College refectory caterers 7 Day Catering have just been awarded five stars by Allerdale council for food hygiene.
And their chef, Sam Small, of Distington, has won a national award for his ‘Home’ bake recipe.
The stars were awarded as part of the Allerdale ‘scores on the doors’ campaign that measure hygiene standards. It is the highest possible award.
Paul Senior, of Workington, contract manager for 7 Day Catering at Lakes College, said: “It is a great reflection of the hard work and commitment that our staff put in
“Sam created a new recipe as part of a company wide national competition.
He said: “I went for a dark rum cake that seemed to go down well with judges, but obviously we won’t use real rum at the college!
“It has a South African flavour which is something different for British tastes,” said Sam.
His winning recipe is now included in the Home bake range of cakes sold in 7 Day Catering Sites nationally.
Sam was presented with his award by Karl Ellis, operations manager for 7 Day Catering.
