MEMBERS of Maryport Inshore Rescue have undergone sea survival training.
VT Nuclear Services, which has offices at Sellafield and Westlakes Science Park, near Whitehaven, sponsored the training which saw 15 volunteer crew members put through their paces.
The course, aboard HMS Excellent in Portsmouth, gave the crew knowledge and experience of personal survival principles and techniques.
It came about when a VT employee and volunteer crew member, Gary Hampson, was put in touch with the company’s training division.
VT Nuclear Services managing director John Chubb and human resources director Nola Waller visited the Maryport crew recently to present them with training certificates.
Gary said: “Inshore Rescue is an independently funded organisation so we rely on organisations like VT to help support the funding for training. The whole crew has benefited from such generosity.
“The survival training was very comprehensive and taught us key survival techniques which will benefit both the crew and the people we rescue.”
