LONG-SERVING Silloth town councillor Jim Snaith has died after a short illness.
Mr Snaith, of Esk Street, died in Carlisle’s Eden Valley Hospice last Tuesday.
He leaves his wife Margaret – an Allerdale and Silloth town councillor – his son Jim, a driving examiner, daughter-in-law Sue and two grandchildren, Tanya and David.
Graham Wilkinson, chairman of Silloth town council and town mayor, said: “We were all sad to hear of Jim’s death.
“He wasn’t Silloth born and bred but he was a valued town councillor and had the issues of Silloth and its people at heart.”
Mr Snaith, who had served on the town council for 10 years, resigned at the end of 2005.
In his resignation letter, he said: “I have had a poor opinion of some councillors for many years now and regrettably things have not improved.
“I can no longer sit through hours of listening to the droning on of those who are in love with the sound of their own voices but in the end contribute little to the good of the town.”
A service of thanksgiving was held on Tuesday at Christ Church, Silloth, followed by cremation in Carlisle.
