A COMMUNITY hall in Maryport which was sold last month for £50,000 has distributed the proceeds to various Maryport organisations.
The village hall at Netherton was closed due to the lack of support it had received.
The hall had been used for weddings, funerals, parties and other functions in Netherton.
It was built in 1936 as a band room for Netherton Brass Band and was taken over in the 1970s by the carnival committee.
It cost £80 to run a week for gas, electricity, insurance and upkeep of the building but the committee said it was lucky to receive £3 or £4 a week.
The Netherton Village Hall committee decided to distribute the money raised to various local groups.
They held a presentation in Maryport’s Bounty Inn last week to distribute the money raised from the sale of the hall.
Funds went to: Maryport Cottage Hospital League of Friends; Maryport Inshore Lifeboat; North Cumbria Air Service; Youth International, Maryport; Carnival Committee, Maryport; Maryport Sea Cadets; Maryport Army Cadets’ Maryport Scouts, Cubs and Beavers; and Maryport Boys’ Club.
