Pupil enjoys VIP tour of town’s police HQ

A BROUGHTON Primary School youngster enjoyed a VIP tour of West Cumbria’s police headquarters in Workington on Sunday.

Eight-year-old Finn Shaw, of Great Broughton, won the trip and a new Lego police station set after entering the Cumbria Constabulary Cops4Kids Lego competition.

Over 150 children aged between five and ten entered the competition.

Finn, his father and two friends, were treated to a guided tour of the station by Keswick and Cockermouth Inspector Martin Connolly and PC Steve Jackson.

They got to see inside the cells in the custody suite where detainees are held, met members of the control room where the emergency calls are received, saw inside police vehicles and arrest vans and finally enjoyed a demonstration of equipment used by officers.

Insp Martin Connolly said: “Finn and his friends were a pleasure to meet. Its great to see the number of young people taking an interest in policing by accessing the Cumbria Constabulary web site, entering these competitions and giving us their views.

“It gives the police a better idea of what young people expect from us.”

The Cops4Kids website aims to raise awareness of the work undertaken by the police and promote considerate behaviour among young people throughout the county.
