Takeaway plan faces strong opposition

A PROPOSAL for a new takeaway in Cockermouth has been recommended for refusal by Cockermouth Town Council.
The plan for premises in South Street would create more mess and anti-social behaviour, it was felt.
An objection was also raised to the application by Margaret Hardy on behalf of Mr and Mrs Bell, of the Loft on South Street.
At a town council meeting on Wednesday, Coun Margaret Jackson said: “If permission for this takeaway goes ahead it will only worsen the problem around the area.”
Coun Eric Nicholson said he was concerned about the amount of mess that would accumulate due to food wrappings and drinks cartons.
The final planning decision will be made by Allerdale council.
