Makeovers, hair styling and skin care tips were all on offer at the store to raise money for women’s cancer charity Look Good...Feel Better.

The national charity helps female cancer patients who are going through treatment and have appearance related problems as a result.

Debenhams beauty consultants were on hand to offer advice and stylists from Saks Hair Salon were working their magic.

Debbie Martin, cosmetics supervisor at Debenhams, organised the charity evening and said it had been a fantastic event.

“We have had so many people donating gifts and offering support, it’s been a really good night,” she said.

“The cosmetics team have given their time to offer beauty tips, Yankees pub gave us some wine and the cosmetics concessions here have all donated gift sets for the raffle.

“We’ve had a lot of women turn up to show support for the charity and generally have a good time.”

It is the second time Debenhams has hosted a charity evening for Look Good...Feel Better and Debbie said the night was also about raising awareness for the cause.

Menswear sales advisor Samantha Bateman, 17, said: “My mam died of cancer recently so I wanted to come along and show support for the charity.

“I know, from what my mam went through, what it’s like to lose your confidence so having a charity like this, to give advice on your appearance, is brilliant.”

A highlight of the night saw Yankees barman Otis Rice auctioned off to the highest bidder.

He then took the lucky winner for a romantic meal.

Gill Marrs, regional co-ordinator for Look Good...Feel Better, said: “Our aim is to make women feel better about themselves as they’re going through therapy so events like these really help to raise the awareness.

“We have a team of consultants who guide women through a 12-step skin care and make-up regime so that they feel confident enough to deal with the visible side effects of the cancer treatment.

“They’re shown how to use false eyelashes and draw on eyebrows and are given a bag with 17 different skin care and make-up products. “It’s a real confidence boost for them.”
