Council workers strike

ALLERDALE council is hoping to keep service disruption to a minimum during a two-day strike by local government workers next week.
Council employees across the UK are expected to take part in a 48-hour stoppage on Wednesday and Thursday in a pay dispute.
The council expects some of its workforce to take part but will try to maintain key services.
It does not expect street cleaning or refuse collections to be affected and residents should put out bins as normal.
The council telephone contact centre will be available on 01900 702702 but callers may have to wait a couple of days for a response to specific queries.
People can also visit customer service centres in Workington’s Finkle Street, Wigton and Silloth Tourist Information Centre on both days, and in Cockermouth on Thursday.
Customer service centres in Keswick, Maryport and Workington Town Hall will be closed both days, with the Cockermouth centre closed on Wednesday.
People can make council payments over a 24-hour automated payment line on 01900 702666 or online at: www.allerdale.gov.uk/pay and access other services through the Allerdale Borough Council website: www.allerdale.gov.uk
