A £50,000 REVAMP of Cockermouth’s Memorial Gardens will begin in September.
Cockermouth Town Council was awarded the cash by the Big Lottery Fund to upgrade the Memorial Gardens play area.
In May, it decided on a design inspired by poet William Wordsworth and his Daffodils poem, put forward by Nottingham firm Produlic.
Around the play area will be pictures of daffodils, waves and stars.
There will be play equipment, the existing paddling pool will be filled in, and a climber currently in the play area will stay.
A hopscotch graphic will also be drawn on the ground.
The play area land will need to remain in use for a period of five years, although clarification is still being sought on the matter.
At a town council meeting on Wednesday, it was agreed that Councillor Sam Standage be recommended as clerk of works. He will oversee the project to the satisfaction of the town council.
Because the area is well used by town youngsters, work will start on the revamp after the summer holidays.
It will take between three and four weeks to complete.
Cockermouth, Flimby, Wigton and Braithwaite each received £50,000 for play area upgrades.
