PLAYERS of London Super League club, Harlequins, are putting their shirt on Maryport ARL players who are touring Austrialia this summer.
Harlequins are backing the Maryport players thanks to Paul McGlennon, of the town’s Sports Zone shop on Wood Street.
McGlennon sent a Harlequins shirt to the London club asking if its players could autograph it so the shirt could then be used to raise money for the Oz tours.
Harlequins responded in style - all their Super League players put their names on the shirt which was raffled at Saturday’s Amateur Cup final between Seaton and Ellenborough.
It made about £200 which will go towards the £1,500 that each of the Oz tourists must raise.
There are two tours this summer involving a Cumbria open age side and a Barla GB U18 team.
Maryport’s Patrick Vaughan is in the Barla party while the club has three players - Daniel Rooney, Mark Foster and Jonathan Dawes - two coaches - Martin Oglanby and Jonathan Gorley - and physio Stephen Lister are on the Cumbria trip.
