A HAT-TRICK from David Slack helped Whitehaven Police to a victory over their Workington counterparts in their annual charity rugby match.
But the real winners are Eden Valley Children’s Hospice in Carlisle, who will benefit from £900 that the event raised.
And £900 will also be donated to the rehabilitation of PC Jon Sherlock who was left with serious injuries after being hit by a stolen car while on duty near Cockermouth last October.
The whole amount, which was raised by various money making ventures during the year, as well as the match itself which was held at Whitehaven’s Recreation Ground, was intend for PC Sherlock’s rehab, but the officer unselfishly donated half to the hospice.
On the pitch, a Duncan Brooker touchdown and three conversions from Paul Hulse gave Whitehaven Police a 28-5 win. Workington’s reply came from Ian Jackson.
Following the game, the organising committee thanked all those who made the fund-raising possible, including Whitehaven RLFC, referee John Rodgers, and rock band Laid Back Jack who provided the post-match entertainment free of charge.
