Four-try Riddick helps Salterbeck Storm ahead

A FOUR-TRY haul from Daniel Riddick helped see Salterbeck Storm to victory over Seaton A at the weekend.

Riddick racked up a personal haul of 22 points from the four tries and three conversions as Salterbeck put 38 unanswered points on their opponents.

Jason Graham, Chris Wilkinson, Paul Dobinson and Dale McAllister also touched down for the Storm in the second division clash.

Back in the top flight and there was nothing to choose between Broughton Red Rose and Glasson Rangers when the two met.

Broughton had a 6-0 lead at the break but Glasson hit back in the second half and the two could not be separated at the final whistle at 12-12.

Paul Osbourne and Lee Askew were the try scorers for Red Rose, with Mark Walker converting both.

For Glasson, Paul Upex, Brian Pattinson and John Fiddler all crossed the whitewash.

Seaton got back to winning ways when they entertained Hensingham and picked up a 14-8 victory.

The home side scored the majority of their points before the break with Hensingham picking up a try in each half, courtesy of Gavin Maudling and Jamie Sharp.

Andy McGlasson and Peter Watson scored Seaton’s two first-half tries with Duncan Moyle and player/coach Jon Roper converting one each.

Moyle then added a penalty goal after the break to seal the win.

Kells still reign supreme at the top of the division, with another convincing victory under their belts.

This time it was Cockermouth on the receiving end as Kells rattled up 60 points to their 14.

The first half was tighter, with Kells just ahead at 24-10, but they broke loose in the second period.

David Dickinson raced in for a hat-trick for the Whitehaven side, with Sean Flanagan, Scott Lofthouse and Ryan Groggins all picking up braces.

Ashley McDonald also touched down and Tony Burns had a great day with the boot, converting all 10 tries.

Cockermouth broke through three times with Jonathan Goulding, Chris Milner and Daniel Rourke the try scorers, Gareth Skillen converting one.

Distington got on top of their hosts Wath Brow and did not allow them to get a single point on the scoreboard in a 36-0 victory.

Clayton Sutton collected a 14-point haul with a try and five goals, with Daniel Dryden scorching over for two tries.

Sean Sutton, Nicky Cook and Troy Armstrong wrapped up the Distington scoring with a try apiece.

Ellenborough won their derby clash with Maryport 28-8 in a hard-fought match.

Jamie Watson led the way for Ellenborough with two tries, alongside one apiece from Kevin Clark, Kyle Lofthouse and Paul Southward. Stephen Stoddart was on target with four conversions.

Maryport’s two tries came from Darryl Parker and Lee Ferguson.

Back down to division two and there were plenty of tries about – especially at Maryport where their second string saw off Salterbeck A 72-0.

Scott Greenhow bagged a hat-trick of tries for the home side but it was Andrew Cartwright who had the top individual tally with 22 points from two tries and seven conversions.

Ryan Steel also bagged a brace of tries, with further touchdowns from Scott Akehurst, John Morgan, Ian Bethwaite, Sean Tierney, Grant Bethwaite and Simon Pattinson.

Bethwaite landed one goal with Pattinson rounding up the scoring with two conversions.

Lowca continued their rich vein of form with a 40-4 victory over Great Clifton Lions.

Dave Colley crossed the whitewash twice for Lowca, with Dave Scott, Dean Morgan, Kyle Shackley, Tony Tinkler and Ricky Bates following his example.

Gary Johnstone slotted over six out of seven conversions.

Clifton’s only points came from a lone try for David Liddington.

Flimby collected two points from a home win over Kells A. The village outfit were 18-4 up at the break and went on to win 26-16.

Carl Grima, David Torley, Lee Tinkler, Ben Harrison, Ryan Williams and Luke Grima all touched down for Flimby, with Graham Thompson adding one goal.

Lewis Tinkler bagged a brace for Kells A, with Derek Rutherford also touching down and Ross Gainford converting two.

Frizington travelled to Egremont and came away happy with their performance in a 44-18 victory.

Shane Dixon and Craig Branthwaite showed the way to the try line for the visiting outfit with two each to their credit.

There were further Frizington tries from Mark Shimmin, Peter Fowler, John Fowler, Ian Ferguson and Ryan Johnstone. Wayne Burns slotted four goals.

Egremont did cross for four tries, with Tom Robson, Blake Mahovic, Joe Schwarzer and Matthew Bewsher all on the scoresheet, Bewsher also successful with one conversion.
