Goal fest in cup

THERE were goals galore in the first round of the Over 35s County Cup with one game even finishing 9-0.

On the losing end were nine-man Frostoms, of Workington, who were hit hard by Whitehaven.

The game got off to a terrible start for Frostoms as they conceded four goals in the first seven minutes.

Billy Simpson (3), Michael Grayson (2), Dave Merner (2) and Norman Llofthouse (2) were on target for Whitehaven.

Moresby and The Bush both got bye into the second round when their opponents Carlisle Zimmer's and Howards Rangers conceeded their respective ties

Last year’s County Champions Netherhall eased past Frizington 5-3, Netherhall who have yet to field a specialist keeper this season might be struggling in the league but they showed their class at Frizington.

Grasslot are in the draw for the next round with an easy 4-0 victory over St Bede’s, Phil Hoyles and Phil Graham both getting two goals each.

Carlisle City moved into round two with a smooth 4-0 win at Silloth.

Hall Park took an early lead in their game against the Bluebell when Bluebell’s stand-in keeper Mark Teasdale gifted David Glasson an early goal.

However the Bluebell hit back through Bob Fowler, Ian Armstrong, Andrew Armstrong, Paul Fowler (3) and another Bob Fowler. Gary Dodgson scored a late consolation for the Hall Park to make it 7-2 to Bluebell.

Penrith Town played host to the Globe Hotel and with a late change of venue the away side were left short with a couple of players unable to be contacted to inform of the change.

The Globe started much the brighter and the hot conditions were no obstacle to their very neat one-touch football.

Simon Rickerby scored for Globe and this spurred Penrith in action and they eventually equalised through Dougie Stokes.

Globe where then awarded a penalty for a blatant push in the back but Rickerby's effort was saved.

With a couple of minutes remaining in the half, an almighty goalmouth scramble somehow led to Graham Higgins scoring from a yard out to give the home side a 2-1 half-time advantage.

In the second half Penrith pushed forward and increased their lead on the hour mark when Alan Parkin hooked home from 10 yards and added another with five minutes to go.
