Beaten 6-0 in their opening game by Airdrie’s School of Excellence went on to reach the final where they beat Airdeie 3-0 on penalties.

Joint coaches Geoff Benson and John Gale were delighted, especially that the youngsters had beaten their Scots’ conquerors in the final.

Benson said: “It was backs to the wall in that final and they did exceptionally well to keep them out.

“The lads up front had scored consistently during the tournament but it was our goalkeeper Bradley Gale and defenders like Greg Benson and Daniel Davis who really shone then.”

The competition, sponsored by Sports Tours, was played over two days and when they opened with that 6-0 defeat the Seaton youngsters did not think they would be back on Sunday.

But they responded superbly. Daniel Graham netted the winner - the only goal - against Eden Vale Cougars from Liverpool.

Next up were Real Monifieth from Dundee and this time Seaton were 5-0 winners as Thomas Fowler (2), Greg Kerr and Graham were on target.

A return trip on Sunday was sealed with a 2-1 win over Abbeytown as Dominic Smallwood hit both goals.

The goals continued to flow on Sunday as Seaton saw off the Newcastle-side Wideopen Juniors 6-1. Free-scoring Graham grabbed a hat-trick and was joined on the sheet by Brandon Renney, Fowler and Jack Norman.

It was a bit tighter against Barca Monifieth from Dundee when a Graham goal decided the outcome.

Their last match was against Girvan Youth from Ayr and although it finished 1-1 - Graham again scorer - that was enough to put them into the final.

Airdrie must have been expecting a smooth run in the final but they didn’t get it against a spirited Seaton side who went the distance to win on penalties.

The Seaton squad was: Dominic Smallwood, Daniel Graham, Thomas Fowler, Greg Benson, Jack Norman, James Burke, Brandon Renney, Bradley Gale, Greg Kerr and Daniel Davis.
