Hoppers’ five catch first win of season

THE latest North West Sea Angling League competition was fished at Port Carlisle with 65 anglers - 52 seniors and 13 juniors - fishing two hours each side of high water.

The match which was fished under pegged, catch, measure and release rules produced 410 flounders for a total length of 12,756cm.

The top five anglers in each club’s results are added together to give each club’s team score. Only five anglers turned out for the Rockhoppers but all scored well to give them their first win of the season with 2,133cm, Maryport came in second with 2,105cm and Workington came third on 1,767cm.

Top anglers was Steve Smith for the Rockhoppers with 24 fish for 781cm. Second place went to Paul Tuck for Maryport with 19 fish for 589cm and third went to Rockhoppers veteran angler Bobby Bell with 15 fish for 491cm.

Ricky Holt for Maryport won the 13 to 16 year old junior section with 14 fish for 413cm, Lewis Neesham for Maryport came second with 11 fish for 360cm and third place went to Lee Murphy for Workington with eight fish for 260cm.

Matthew Smith for Workington won the eight to 12 year old junior section with two fish for 55cm and Scotty Holliday for Harrington came second with a 41cm flounder.

The longest fish prize went to Steven George for Workington with a 42cm flounder.

WORKINGTON Sea Angling club fished a club and league match at Port Carlisle on Sunday where 151 fish for 1,767cm were caught on a catch, measure and release basis.

First was Paul Cain with 14 flounder for 445cm, second was S George with 12 flounder for 373cm and the longest fish of 42cm. Third was Ian Murphy with 11 flounder for 349cm.

In the juniors first was Lee Murphy with eight fish for 260cm, second was Dan Hannon and Matthew Smith with two fish for 55cm.

Workington Sea Angling Club’s presentation night is on May 17 in the Jack Club.

The next match is on Sunday, May 18 from Skinburness slipway to Grune Point, 5-9pm, Weigh-in cote light.
