QUITE a few West Cumberland Orienteering Club members attended the eighth event of the Cumbrian Galoppen at Bannisdale on Sunday.
There was success for Helen Winskill who won the blue course with an impressive one-minute margin.
The first of the Park Races was held at Mirehouse on the shores of Bassenthwaite Lake. Short, easy and very fast racing gave some top rate competition.
Chris Brand-Barker stormed round the 2.4km course, accurately finding the 18 controls in a very quick 11 minutes and 40 seconds.
Close contact with the map was very important, as any hesitation proved very costly.
Charlotte Watson took fifth place, as first lady.
The shorter course saw Alistair Pollitt take the win, with Sarah and Esther Moore in hot pursuit. Many juniors from the schools league found the running much to their liking.
The series continues for the next several weeks. Details of the various venues with parking etc can be found on the website www.wcoc.co.uk and, close to each event, on the answerphone 01768 895539.
