More success for WCOC

WEST Cumberland Orienteering Club juniors travelled to Ilkley Moor last weekend for a regional event where runners from all over the north of England provided tough competition.
On the premier JW5L course of 6.05km and 215m climb, Charlotte Watson had a great win, coming out five minutes clear in 58.18.
Lewis Taylor also had a great run on JM5L - 7.6km with 270m climb - to take third place in 57 minutes.
Both Watson and Taylor continue to perform well, making a strong impression in their age classes, with Watson fully justifying her selection for the British Start squad.
Younger juniors also made their mark, with second places going to Katrina Hemingway in 44.02 on JW4, and Kate Skinner in 19.44 on JW2.
Other results included Graham Hemingway seventh in 58.44 on JM5M, Chris Hemingway sixth in 66.04 on JM5S, and Rosie Watson eighth in 54.47 on JW5S.
The second event of the park race series was held in Curwen Park, Workington. The 2.5km long course provided some very close racing, where quick map reading was needed while trying to maintain speed.
Several runners made mistakes while in oxygen debt, unable to navigate successfully near the end of the course.
Andrew Bradley took the win ahead of Alan Irving. Rosie Watson, in ninth, was first lady.
The short course had joint winners, sisters Esther and Sarah Moore. Matthew Whitby, moving up from the schools events, had little difficulty taking a well earned fifth.
The park race series continues for the next four weeks. Details of the venues and parking can be found on the website www.wcoc.co.uk and close to each Thursday on the answerphone 01768 895539. Just turn up and have a go.
