Exciting racing in new woodland

A NEWLY planted woodland at Marron Leys, near Rowrah, provided an exciting venue for the fourth Park Race of West Cumberland Orienteering Club’s autumn series.
Very fast orienteering with swift navigation decisions separated the quick-thinking juniors from the older competitors.
Chris Brand-Barker took the win from Lewis Taylor by the smallest of margins – one second. Graham Hemingway and Ben Emerson were close behind, with Charlotte Watson securing a great sixth placing.
Sam Pagett dominated the short with more than a two-minute margin. Further down the results the competition among the juniors was very close with just seconds separating many.
Just one more event of the Park series remains. Then, with the closing in of the nights and the change in the clocks, the night series will begin. Orienteering in the dark is superb fun and always attracts a good turnout.
All the details of the winter series will be available soon on the website www.wcoc.co.uk. But first, at the end of October, the club looks forward to the annual Spook-O, Halloween in the forest.
Details of all the evening events can be found on the website and close to each event on the answerphone 01768 895539.
