Among the winners were Kerry Hunton, of Workington, for her performances throughout the year in the 400m - where she represented Cumbria and the English Schools - 100m, 200m, high jump and sprint hurdles which gave her the overall points winner at the club.

Hunton has recently also joined the Army and her presence at the club’s training is already a big miss.

Jamie Pattinson, of Whitehaven, was also awarded most point scorer after a most consistent season in the 100, 200, 400m and high jump.

The main awards of the night, however, went to Harrington’s Oliver Lithgow who has a great season stepping up to the 400m where he remains unbeaten in Cumbria and represented his county at the inter county schools and inter county clubs finishing second on both occassions.

Lithgow also ran the 100 and 200m winning the overall U15 boys Cumbria League trophy for most points, giving him the male athlete of the year award.

Last but by no means least, Tessa Stockdale, of Bassenthwaite, a sprinter and high jumper, had a tremendous season in her first full season winning at 100m and high jump at both inter county events and representing Cumbria at the English Schools. She was ranked in the top three of the North West.

Seaton coach Stephen Hhughes praised the prize-winners: “Their achievements this year have been outstanding and the best news is that they are still learning their events.

“They train very hard and this shows with their results and, given a strong winter’s training behind them, I’m expecting a big 2009 for of them.”

Other good news for the Seaton club was senior coach Terry Hughes being named volunteer of the year in the West Cumbria Crime and Disorder Reduction Awards.

And Stephen Hughes has also been selected once again to be the high jump coach for Cumbria and the North West by UK Athletics.

Seaton AC are holding winter meetings on Tuesdays, 6.30-8pm, at Workington Sixth Form Centre gym and on Thursdays, 6.30-7.45pm, at Copeland Stadium.

New members will be welcomed. For more information contact Terry Hughes on 01900 604670 after 6pm.
