TWO Cockermouth girls have been selected to represent the West Cumberland Orienteers in the World Schools Orienteering championship.
Rosie Watson, 14, has been picked to take part in the junior girls select team while Hannah Bradley, 13, has been picked as a non-travelling reserve in the same category.
Rosie, a pupil at Keswick School, took part in the competition last year in Edinburgh and will take part in the championships again this year, which are held in Madrid.
Rosie, of Beech Lane, Cockermouth, who has been orienteering for around four years, said: “I am really pleased to have been picked and I am looking forward to meeting other orienteerers from different parts of the world.
“I took part in last years event and I am looking forward to doing the same this year especially as it is in a different country and the fact that I have never been to Spain before.
“Sometimes looking for places on the map manages to distract you from the difficulty of running everywhere, which usually helps me round the courses.
“I have been interested since a young age after I went to events with my parents and I have just picked it up through them.”
Hannah, of Middle Farm, Tallentire, and a pupil at Cockermouth School, said: “I am excited to just be in the reserve team.
“I have been orienteering for around three years now after my dad got me interested in it. If I actually end up going to Madrid it would be amazing.”
