Wind change

VELO Club Cumbria held its open time trial at Cockermouth with 52 riders from Lancashire, the North East and all parts of Cumbria.
After many weeks of a mainly easterly wind it changed direction making it very hard on the return leg climbing Embleton bank .
The event was won by John Morgan of Preston Wheelers in an excellent time of 52 minutes 57 seconds bearing in mind the conditions, following on from his second place at Levens with a 20-minute ten mile time
Rob Hargreaves, Team Swift/Allsports, VCC, was third senior rider with 54.55 and VCC rider Adam Powe was next on the finish sheet in 55.39.
Lee Foster was sixth overall and first over 50 in 56.27, and Ian Manson, Johnstone Whs, was first over 40 in 56.41 and eighth overall.
First over 60 was Penrith’s Mike Westmorland, 58.12, and the ladies’ race was won by Lynsey Anderson, Thegreenroomgroup.com, in a time of 1.02.40.
David Hayton was 33rd with 1.7.27, VCC’s lady Sam Ayers clocked 1.12.50 with evergreen Malcolm Moore ,VCC, admitting to not enjoying the climb of Embleton finishing with 1.14.26.
