Riders tested on tough Higham Hill

VELO Club Cumbria held what has got to be one of the toughest time trials in West Cumbria on a course from Cockermouth School to Dubwath and returns via the steep Highham hill and over the top to finish just before the junction at Cockermouth, a distance of eight miles.

Adam Powe, VCCumbria, was in his element to win at an amazing average speed of 24.08 mph putting top VC rider Brian Payton into second in 20.40.

In third was VCC’s Mark Amor in 20.51 and next was Dave Robinson was fourth in 21.12 and first O40.

Keith Ashbridge, who prefers hilly courses, turned in a time of 22.20 for fifth and Julian Cook ,VCC, clocked 22.32 with Mark Wells, VCC next in 22.47.

Frazer Robinson ,KMB, finished in 24.51 tying with David Hayton,VCC, both leading the O50 group.

Tenth was Neil Hercberg,VCC, another rider who likes hills, in 25.48 with Mark Gascoigne,VCC, 26.09. M Jenkinson clocked 26.15 and Sam Ayers took the ladies’ prize in 26.35. Wendy Thomas ,VCC, was next lady in 30.15.
