Bikers learn about braking techniques

GLORIOUS sunshine and a fantastically warm evening more than made up for all the recent gloom and rain the previous week as 20 Lakeland Sprinters riders took to the track at Rowrah Karting Stadium.

Whilst the holiday season may have taken its toll on the quantity, the quality of racing was superb with the division one riders in particular enjoying close times in the 1km time trial and fierce battles in the handicap bunch race, the Kierin and the team pursuit time trial.

For the division four riders, besides the 500m time trial there was an intensive coaching session on braking technique led by senior youth coach Don Morrison.

This forms part of their basic skill development programme that runs throughout the season and is based on the new national standard for cycle training known as Bikeability.

The national standard has been adopted by both British Cycling and the Cycle Touring Club as the minimum standard for coaching.
