Silver Handicap of Sandra Messenger, Janette Roe, Edna Scraggs, Kath Gibson and Norma Blair lost to Carus Green, and the Cecil Leitch team of Dot Crelling, Helena Earl, De Ruddick, Madeline Harrison, Ann Newberry, Ann Garner and Janice Cooper lost to Seascale.

In the ladies’ section at the club the Challenge Bowl 5 was won by Janette Roe (91-15-76) with Ann Newberry (102-26-76) second.

Sadly Roe and Helena Earl lost to Stranraer three and two in the Daily Mail Foursomes.

Ann Newberry won the Baird Cup 5 with a score of 41 points resulting in her handicap being cut to two. Gill Jones was the runner-up on 40 which saw her handicap cut by one.

Well done to Newberry, Garner and Crelling for representing Cumbria in the county vets match against Durham.

A good effort by Belinda Rigby and Elaine Pekarek, who represented Workington in the Ping 4BBB at Hollings Hall in Yorkshire, saw them finishing 18th with 27 pts, not enough however to qualify for the final.

The Ladies Gemini was won by Dot Crelling (Workington) and Alison Vasey (Maryport) with 37 points.

Second were De Ruddick (Workington) and Marilyn Graham (Whitehaven) with 35.

The men’s Medal 15 division one winner was Richard Kirk (off nine) with a nett score of 66.

The division two winner was Malcolm Campbell (off 18) with 67.

There were 11 Twos with Stephen Fryer and Stephen Armstrong getting two each. There were 72 competitors.

Medal 16 was won by Jack McRea in division one with a score of 66 while the division two winner was Barry Gibb 65.

In the Veterans Cup Mike Dawson (off 20) took the top slot with 36 Stableford points, one ahead of Malcolm Ireland (off 16).

There were only two Twos – Adrian Chisnall and Malcolm Bethwaite – and 23 competitors.

Tony Cassidy (off 18) took the President’s Putter with a score of 69 and Barrie Lennon (off 5) was runner-up with 71. He also had the best gross score of 76.

There were five Twos – one from club captain Eric Ellwood – and 54 competitors.
