GEORGE Weaver landed his first win in the competitive Flimby HS at the weekend – but of more significance was that it was his second Derwent Valley Federation win.

The first success in the Fed came 20 years ago when he was first and second from Nantes flying in Maryport.

This latest win came from Fareham, some 283 miles from Flimby as he clocked at 1.43pm following Saturday’s 7.15am liberation.

George had been in and out of the sport since 1981 when he started in Maryport, but has been flying in Flimby for the last five years.

There are Rushforth bloodlines in George’s Fed topper – a dark chequer yearling cock, while there’s also a strong Delbar influence from the loft of Flimby ace Eddie Pape.

The cock has not scored before but has been a consistent performer this season, regularly in the first three back to the loft.

He led-up for George two weeks ago from Cheltenham after a season on the roundabout system.

The birds were re-paired after that and the Fed winner was sent to Fareham driving his hen.

George sent 17 to the race and got 11 of them back,
