FIFTEEN members of a Workington martial arts club has qualified for their discipline’s British championships.
The fighters from the Tai Jutsu Kai club, which meets at Moorclose Sports Centre, Workington, took part in the Midlands Jujutsu Competition.
Trevor Cunningham, the club’s instructor, said: “Competition is a means of testing techniques in a pressurised environment against people of different styles.
“It is one thing to perform on an opponent who offers no real resistance, it is quite another to be able to make it work under severe pressure.”
Jujutsu fighting allows a wide range of skills - striking, grappling and groundwork - to be used in a continuous format.
The club meets at the sports centre on Saturdays - 1pm-2pm adults, 2pm-3pm children - and Thursday - 7pm-8pm adults.
