A KARATE event in Carlisle was top of the chops.
Some 150 competitors, aged from six to 62, took part in the Chojinkai Karate Club’s annual championships at Carlisle’s Sands Centre.
Beginners to Second Dan black belts were in action in the event which was organised by Chojinkai Karate Club founder Doug James, who set the club up in 1974.
Chojinkai has 10 clubs all over Cumbria and in Newcastle, with 600 members.
James, a Seventh Dan Black Belt, said: “It was a brilliant day and we attracted 200 spectators who were treated to some excellent karate.”
Instructor Gordon Harrison, from Egremont, was presented with his Fifth Dan award.
