WCMC drivers tame the Pendragon

WEST Cumbria Motorsport Club had a bumper 11 entries on the Pendragon Stages on Sunday and with a full entry of over 100 cars and even the odd star.

The Pendragon is a round of the ANECCC Championship, and defending champions Richard and Edwin Cook from Lamplugh were out to make it win number three having taken the last two rounds.

Despite the Astra only running on three pots they were out for a good rally, and they did just that. With faultless driving from Edwin they came home 15th overall and second in class, bagging 20 points.

Third in the championship and second home from the club was the Escort Cozy of Willie Jarman and Mark Fisher in 23rd overall.

Husband and wife crew Keith and Jacqueline Richardson also had a clean run in their Escort Cozy to take 38th overall.

A late entry was from David Nicholson in his Nova and he had an excellent rally, coming 42nd overall.

Geoff Wilson and Alex Benn lost time with a puncture and came 82nd.

Mitch McGrath was 60th, Reg and Andrew Irving 66th and Sian Beatty/Julianne Antrobus 69th.

WCMC’s Neal and Eileen Horsfall took part in the Welsh Endurance rally.

Endurance events are a cross between a traditional road rally, an auto test and a special stage rally. The cars are limited to 1400cc petrol or 2000cc diesel with only safety and suspension modifications allowed.

The weather for the Welsh at Walters Arena and Rheola forest in South Wales was absolutely atrocious – torrential rain, high winds and mist on the higher selectives.

The Horsfalls were lying second in class and 22nd overall after the first leg.

Leg 2, a single long selective of about 20 miles, was held in the dark and, on high ground, mist when it was impossible to use spot lights and high beam.

Leg 3 was a traditional 90-mile night rally held on some wonderful little-used roads and lanes in the steep and narrow valleys of South Wales.

At the end of the night leg the pair had dropped down the leader board to 36th overall.

In a bid to pick up places the next leg had to be driven with conviction and the Horsfalls managed to pull back more than a minute on cars in each of the shorter 2-3 mile selectives.

Their final position was 23rd overall and fifth in class.

WCMC is gearing up for its first autosolo event on September 14 at Eddie Stobart’s premises at Lillyhall.

It will involve a series of timed runs over a hard surface course.
