Town go for double over York

WORKINGTON Town host York at Derwent Park on Sunday and will be hoping to complete a double over the Knights.

Back in April Town defeated York 24-20 in what was their first win of the season and, so far, only away win.

Town have signed Hensingham hooker Jamie Sharp on two-year deal after proving his worth in Town’s reserve-grade this term.

Sharp said: “They asked me at five o’clock and I rang back at nine. I didn’t have to think about it.”

Town coach Dave Rotheram said: “He’s been pretty much the mainstay of the reserve-team all year.”

Rotheram branded Sunday’s defeat at Rochdale a Comedy of Errors. He said: “I don’t think I have ever been involved in a game with 16 tries. “Unfortunately, 10 of them were scored by Rochdale.

“We just couldn’t get the ball off them early in the second-half. It was comical really, a Comedy of Errors for 15 minutes.”

Meanwhile, Workington centre Jason Mossop missed out on a place in the Student World Cup final when Wales went down 26-10 to hosts Australia in their last-four clash.

Town’s reserve-grade belied their league position with a gritty performance in a 26-8 defeat against Whitehaven on Wednesday night.
